“So
you’re an artist living in the Massachusetts area and like most
other people these days, you’re struggling to get by. Art sales
have gone down and expenses for exhibitions and proper publicity have
gone up. The rising price of gas and its impact on our environment
continues to be a growing concern. Can an artist these days use
technology to help alleviate some of these burdens and grow an
audience at the same time?”
In “Artists in the
Virtual World” Jeffrey Lipsky will demonstrate how he is using the
online virtual world of Second Life® to address these challenges
while making a real splash in the art scene. The first day’s
demonstration will incorporate a live interactive presentation and
tour of the vast network of art galleries, museums, and artists that
exist online in the 3D interactive virtual world and marketplace.
Participants will experience portions of the seminar with a large
video projection and sound system while being encouraged to ask
questions during the tour. During the presentation Lipsky will
discuss grant opportunities for artists working in the virtual world.
Artists will also have the opportunity to sign up for the second day
of the seminar where they can bring digital versions of their artwork
to be uploaded and exhibited in the virtual world.
Part two of the seminar
will meet a day or two after the first. It is a hands-on workshop
for artists to actually see the work that goes on behind the scenes
of exhibiting, promoting, and selling art in the virtual world of
Second Life®. This workshop is also a great chance for
artists to come together to discuss the implications of doing
business online and digitizing their artwork. Artists are encouraged
to bring artwork to be converted into a digital picture
that will be installed into an exhibition at the online arts
community of Artropolis in Second Life.
